May 1998 - Scottish Widows, one of the UK's oldest and most highly regarded mutual life assurance companies, has awarded a contract valued at £1.5m to FileNET for Panagon integrated document management (IDM) software. The solution will be delivered by Phoenix Technology, a FileNET ValueNET business partner and leading provider of business solutions to the finance sector in the UK and Ireland.
As part of its major commitment to improving client services, Scottish Widows conducted a study of its business and generated a business case to support the installation of an integrated document management solution.
As Douglas Alexander, Scottish Widows' IT customer relationship manager explains, "As we continue to experience dramatic growth via our existing sales channels and new business through joint ventures, we recognised the need to upgrade our client services environment to increase efficiency and improve productivity."
The new system, which will be built using FileNET Panagon software, will provide an electronic customer service infrastructure for 1,000 Scottish Widows client service representatives. The FileNET technology will be used within client services division to provide on-line access to clients' details, correspondence and policy documents allowing service clerks to respond to client enquiries more efficiently.
Previously, policy details were held in paper files. With the introduction of an integrated document management solution client service clerks will be able to locate appropriate files, respond to the client's enquiry and make changes to policy details more efficiently.
Having reviewed responses to tender from a number of vendors, Scottish Widows selected the solution from FileNET and Phoenix Technology Group.
As Douglas Alexander explains : "We selected FileNET because of their strong track record and the proven functionality of the product. Phoenix with their close relationship with FileNET, their knowledge of the insurance sector and their ability to clearly understand our business and technical goals, instilled us with confidence that they could manage a project of this size."
According to Lee Roberts, president and CEO of FileNET, "Market-leading companies, such as Scottish Widows, recognise integrated document management is a strategic investment that will help them better respond to customer requirements today and in the future. The open architecture and scaleability of our Panagon software makes it easy to create a streamlined customer service environment."
The Scottish Widows system components include FileNET Panagon IDM Desktop, Panagon IDM Services and Panagon Visual WorkFlo Services software.
FileNET Panagon integrated document management software
allows users to cost-effectively access any document from
any desktop and then put those documents to work using document-centric,
graphical workflow processes. Panagon systems can store
the hundreds of millions of documents typically found in
a large corporate or government organisation in both front
office and back office environments. FileNET Panagon workflow
services automate and manage business processes, enabling
process changes and offering customers the opportunity to
achieve a distinct competitive advantage.
