20th July 1999 - AXA SunLife (part of the AXA Group, the second largest insurance and asset management group in the world) has made a multi-million pound investment in a 1,000 seat licence for Panagon Integrated Document Management (IDM) from FileNET and Insurance Desktop (IDT) solution from Phoenix Technology Group of Dublin. The new workflow and image systems will address two key areas - to streamline internal processes and to improve customer service.
In addition, Phoenix will also install FileNET's Panagon Web Publisher (PWP) which will be used in the development of the AXA SunLife Intranet extending document management so that it includes standards-based Web publishing and automation.
The investment in imaging, workflow and EDM is a key building block of Project Gemini - a series of programmes to introduce call centres, automate key processes and drive customer service improvement. AXA Sun Life will deploy these systems to stream work more effectively to its case managers.
Rob Skuse, Systems Development Manager, AXA Sun Life explains: "We calculated that we could make a significant cost saving by reducing the 'paper chase' so the imaging solution was a core requirement. By automating other processes and with the Insurance Desktop (IDT) solution to 'workflow' our business flows we also expect to reap productivity rewards."
Phoenix developed the IDT solution as a component-based product that uses the power of the Panagon Open Systems Architecture to help large insurance companies to prioritise the distribution of work (paper, email, telephone) and to dynamically balance work across all customer-facing teams based on a sophisticated parameter set.
"Although we had the capability to build our own workflow solution, we did not want to end up with a bespoke system. The Insurance Desktop is an out-of-the-box solution based on the FileNET Panagon software suite which fitted our requirement," adds Skuse.
Currently in the elaboration and construction phase, Rob Skuse's team of 12 IT/systems developers is working closely with a core group of users and the business sponsor to ensure that the desktop functionality matches their requirements. Phase 1 will go live in Q4 1999 for new business in Life and Individual Pensions, followed by the second phase for life and individual pensions servicing early in 2000.
