Thursday, January 20th 2005...“We
may not have Colin Farrell on our payroll, but we’re
definitely leading the charge for Ireland at the up-and-coming
BAFTA Interactive Awards” said Naoise Ó Muirí,
Operations Director, Phoenix Technology Group (Phoenix),
in Dublin today.
Naoise was commenting on the fact that Phoenix
has been nominated for a BAFTA Interactive Award (Factual)
for the design and development of a new electronic touch
screen gallery for the National Galleries of Scotland. The
factual category recognises the best use of digital media
to deliver factual information which is exactly what the
project set out to do. The interactive kiosks located in
the newly opened Playfair Gallery in Edinburgh allow the
general public to see and appreciate the art housed in any
of The National Galleries of Scotland. Art experts and laymen
alike can:
·
Examine valuable pieces of art electronically
· Enjoy in-depth
analysis (including Video) of art and artists
· Be educated on common painting
themes like Death and Story Telling.
“As a leading provider of Content and
Process technology, our projects are typically very serious
business oriented solutions, but this project has certainly
brought a little bit of showbiz glamour to the company.
We are delighted that this implementation for The National
Galleries of Scotland has been recognised as an industry
leader and nominated for the award”.
According to Brenda Reilly, Sales and Marketing
Director for Phoenix:
“The project for The National Galleries
of Scotland was something outside of our core business area
but we were asked to do it based on our technology skills
and expertise so it’s fantastic that the end result
has been nominated for an award. For us it is confirmation
that when it comes to technology solutions, we can succeed
at anything we undertake. The electronic gallery was opened
by the Duke of Edinburgh in August and has already received
an amazing response from visitors. The BAFTA nomination
is the icing on the cake.”
